Around Joo Chiat aka Eunos Station

I promised to buy lunch for KY and myself. And I decided to have Sardine Murtabak and Wanton Mee from Changi Road/ Joo Chiat where my previous work place is.

My 1st job was near Eunos Station, and my office a walking distance from AIA Changi. The varieties of food come from all races, which isn't a bore for my appetite. Sometimes, we had even taken cab to Parkway Parade for lunch as well.

My office building.

I miss my x-colleagues there, but especially the food =p

Pataya serves up delicious Thai dishes, so simple yet so fullfilling for lunch.
But I've heard fromx-colleagues, whom had met up recently, that the standards have dropped.

I should have tried their Green Curry Chicken, Fried Calamari with Sweet Sour Chilli Sauce, Pandan Wrapped Chicken and etc before I left!

Further down from my office and along Changi Road, there are 2 indian restaurants that serve real good prata, murtabak, briyani and etc.

As I've forgotten which restaurant did I frequent with my x-colleagues, I chose Marhaba Restaurant (shown on the right) based on hunch.

That's my sardine murtabak on that hot pan.

2 shops away from Marhaba Restaurant is Har Yassan Restaurant, where we had the favoured mee goreng and bryani. But you can have the better of Chicken Bryani further down, near Joo Chiat Complex and Malay Village.

Opposite the Malay Village and Joo Chiat Complex, there's a row of shophouses.

And which lies my favourite Indian Chicken Bryani from Hilal Restaurant. I like the bryani rice especially with the raisins and aroma. The combination of the tender chicken, sauce and rice make it as though they can't do without each other.

If you've walked further down from Hilal Restaurant, there's a superb wanton mee stall.

I know it's confusing with the road sign here. Because Joo Chiat and Changi Road are just slighly apart. And I'd followed the same route that I used to take from my ex-office, which landed here at Lor 101 Changi.

The wanton mee stall is in a coffee shop, which we refer as half-way house, not sure why. But the noodles there is fantastic, v.v. QQ!

Unfortunately, the coffee shop really known as 1+2 Coffee House is closed on Sunday. Else I would be able to let you have a look at it and KY to have for lunch.
The stall holder sells char siew (bbq pork), roast pork and chicken rice too. The mystery, I would say, lies in the noodles and the sauce he mixes up, which is the reason his wanton mee is that great.

There's a famous Fei Fei Wanton Mee around the corner. I don't understand why it is that famous? There are no ingredients that accompany the bland noodles. And I had to order it with extra chlli added in. My male colleagues had to order xtra noodles because they were not full. I ordered an otah instead.

1 shop away from wanton mee is a House of Beef . I think it's not bad, different from Geylang Lor 9 Beef Kway Teow (beside what used to be the You Tiao King). The sauce is not as thick and over-whelming as the latter. It's good to drop by there and try.

Back to Joo Chiat Complex, there's a food centre situated directly behind that caters the majority Malays with Malay food stalls.

We refer this place as 'Pigeon', because there are always alot of pigeons hanging out here.

Wonder if they are still there, or have they become roasted pigeons??

I enjoyed the Malay Western Food stall (Fish & Chips and Chicken Chop), but I especially like the 2 Malay Nasi Padang stalls. Ooh... I miss the mutton/beef rendang, spicy kang kong and etc...!

Okie, time for the show case of my sardine murtabak...

It's the 1st time I've seen a rolled up murtabak.

It looked platable, just like lagsana.

I like to 'pour' curry sauce all over, and my murtabak bathe and emerse in curry.

Yummmm... Crispy on the outside, soft dough on the inside and I thought I tasted cheese??

It's chewy too.
