Donuts on test

I L.O.V.E donuts from young, ever since the time of Dunkin Donuts. There used to be a local bakery, Tokyo Cake Shop (if I remember correctly) opposite Bedok Bus Interchange. I really like their bakeries; chunky peppery chicken crusty pie, donuts glazed with choc and chopped peanuts, sugared donut twists and my mother's favourite blueberry cake.

When Donut Factory made its scene at the basement of Raffles City, I would see a super long queue from one end of its shop to the other end of another retail shop. I see this scene every Sat when I was working at Soup Spoon as a part-time crew at that time. I was thinking that it will be another frenzy that will fade in the end. But I also like to try how well they taste.

So... since my traveller cum food buddy, YP and I are taking half day off from work (I had a regular job too!), we decided to give it a try. She was queueing for about >1hr before I reached. It'd be foolish if we each buy a donut after she queued >4hrs and me, >3hrs. So she bought 6, while I got 12.

The verdict? I think they are just normal bread with sweet glaces. And they turned hard the next day. I prefer originality.

I succumb my craving for donuts whenever I pass by Four Leaves aka Panaderia. Their donut balls are v.v. soft and sweetened by dusting what seemed like a whole bag of icing sugar! Nevertheless, they are the best so far here.

I introduced them to an ex-colleague of mine when we travelled to Parkway Parade for lunch pick-ups from our office in Eunos. She loves them instantly! And we would sometimes get each of us a giant cone of ice-cream from this shop situated beside MPH, now Borders.

I chanced upon Krispy Kreme in Tokyo, opposite Takashimaya Times Square in Shinjuku one night in Dec 07. I 1st read about it on the newspapers of S'poreans raving of the brand overseas. My curiousity was reinforced by my papa, who's now working in one of the Asia countries, whose boss brought in Krispy Kreme. It was late and the queue was long AND we hadn't eaten dinner, so I forgo grabbing one.

So my friends and I went back the very next morning.

Don't be put off by the queue. It's pretty fast-moving due to the helpful staff who directed the human traffic and took the orders.

That's me holding to their menu. We decided to purchase 2 boxes - the original of sugar glace and assorted flavours.

And they give each customers in the queue FOC sugar glace donuts fresh out-of-the oven!

There are afew counters too so don't worry about staring into long lines of queues for payment.

They are GOOD! And they still maintained soft the next day for breakfast. I prefer the original sugar glace.

Well we couldn't finish the whole lot of 24 donuts even if there were 5 mouths. So we gave the rest to a helpful staff of our hotel.

I heard from my colleague that there's also a Krispy Kreme at Hong Kong's airport. I'm gonna be there this July 08 and WILL definitely bring back afew boxes before I'm back home! I will post more photos on it after I'm back then.
