Tom Yam Soup with Fried Fish and Thick Bee Hoon, from the Yong Tau Foo stall on the 1st floor. You'll always see a long queue during lunch. There are an assortment of ingredients to choose from at $2.50 for 5 pieces. (I think) But if I always choose to order their Tom Yam Soup with Fried Fish. The soup is spicy, yet sweet at the same time. And the fried fish isn't oily nor too thin and hard.
This is where I get my favourite dose of muffins from. The stall is already packed full with their varieties of muffins in the early morning. Their varieites include blueberry, cranberry, prunes, orange, banana walnut, double choc, mocha, cinnamon apple, mixed fruits, oreo and etc... and each huge muffin sells at $1 only! Did I tell you my personal favourite? It's raisins with oatmeal.
When I'm not having muffin for my breakfast, I'll head for soya beancurd at Aunty Mei Mei's. She told my handsome ex-colleague that the secret to her soya bean milk is the sugar/ syrup that she made herself.
It's so smooth...! One spoon after the other and gone in 5mins.
Besides soya beancurd, I would also order chee cheong fun from the Hainanese owner. They are usually sold out by lunch. The only pity is that I find the brown sauce too little for my packet @$1.20.
Besides chee cheong fun, they also sell yam cake, pumkin cake, glutinous rice, Hakka abaccus and some vegetable dumplings.
I tried the ondeh ondeh from SG Kueh, after bumping into their name online. They've pretty good reviews and few celebrities frequent them too, thus decided to try them out.
The 'normal' ondeh ondeh, aka original ondeh ondeh above. I'm not used to it as the skin is rather thick and the gula melaka filling is not juicy enough.
My colleague felt the same way too. We both agreed on one thing; the stall at Maxwell Market serves the better of original ondeh ondeh.
I like yam dessert aka O-ni. But not all desserts can be made with yam. This yam skin with yam filling is too much for my liking.
There are more delicious food that can be found at Amoy Street Food Center. Namely Fish Soup, Lor Mee, Nasi Lemak and Chinese Nasi Padang on level 2, wanton mee and char kway teow on level 1.
As we venture further away, we found...
BBQ Stingray, Beef with ginger & a dose of chilii from MacPherson BBQ Seafood, 34 South Bridge Rd. Those working near OCBC building or Central Mall would know where this shop is! The main character is the sting ray, and the menu has various sides to choose from. Sedapppp....! In addition, they also serve hor fun and noodles as well. You can call them up for delivery if you're working around the area, and minimum of 5 orders required depending on the distance.
