Zhi Char @ Kembangan

It's late Sat afternoon, and I was lazing around at home. Waiting for Pig's reply on the night's program. Mr Joey, my dog, was lazing with me too. He goes wherever I go; the living room, the kitchen and even to the toilet!

In the living room, Mr Joey likes to lay on the sofa and he especially likes to have a cushion as his head-rest.

In my bedroom as I was preparing myself for the night's date, Mr Joey would jump up to my bed and make himself comfortable. Seen here with my soft toy seal from Ocean Park Hong Kong. He's my best bodyguard ever! Wonder what I'll do w/o him???!

Later that night, Pig told me that we would be having dinner with his parents and asked me for suggestion. I joking suggested hawker food, but was chided by him. Well, what's wrong? Bedok North 85's serves all our favourite food? From the pork porridge to the fried carrot cake to the big mackeral otah!

In the end, Pig's father decided to have it at Kembangan, where a Zhi Char restaurant serves up cheap and delicious dishes.

We had our dinner there a few times, and each time we spent not more than $50.

Yes, all these for $50 only! I have never noticed the name of the restaurant. But I know it's along the stretch of food outlets opposite of the Kembangan MRT station, and beside New Hawa restaurant.

Tapioca leaves stir-fry with dried prawns

The vegetables was fried to the right biteful, not too soft and neither too crunchy. It's also not that salty as well.

La la cooked in Shao Xing Wine

The clams were small, and the wine wasn't over-whelming. You can drink the 'soup' that's the residue on the plate. Super aromatic!

Some Herbal Soup

I'm sorry that I couldn't recall what the soup was. All I could remember is the slight heaviness of the herbal taste. I'll leave a comment once I found out!

Egg Omelette with Oysters

The omelette wasn't fried to the crispy extent as those found at hawker centers. Overall juicy, but otherwise can be skipped.

Steamed Mini Squids

Juicy squids and you can't stop at one! I didn't taste the black ink and there wasn't any stench. I would say this is an interesting dish.

Stir-fry Chicken with Ginger, Dried Chilli in Black Sweet Sauce, Claypot style

It wasn't spicy at all, and it's sweet and I must say the best dish on the table! The chicken meat was tender and had absorbed the black sauce as well as the rest of the ingredients. You can scoop out the sauce sparingly on your plate of rice and consume with the rest of the dishes together. That's what the father and son did.

After dinner and having sent his parents home, Pig and I met up with our fren, Ah Quah for chit-chat at the 24hrs Carl's Junior, East Coast Park.

Ah Quah's not his real name, and neither is he one. It's a nick I gave him since Poly days.

Ah Quah with his errmmm... cute pose...
