A Mad Mad Kuala Lumpur Food Hunt

Ever since Ms A moved to KL to work, she's been 'sending her invitation' to us to visit her whenever we can. A plus is because we get to sleep over at her apartment provided by her company.

I jumped at the chance since it's been a long time since Ob and I have made a trip there. We missed not the shopping, but rather the food! Ampang Yong Tau Foo, Mini Egg Tarts, Bah Kut Teh, Baskin Robbins and etc!

Ms A got us return coach tix from Aeroline; a new first class coach service that starts off from Harbourfront. It's a no-nonsense coach as it'll promptly leaves on time and brings it's passengers to their destination by the stipulated time, which is 5 hours.

It is a very new and confortable coach. The majority passengers are white-collar workers and few rest are travellers like us.

Meals are also provided on board by a young and friendly 'steward'.

The dinner was chicken rice and jelly as dessert.

After dinner and half-way through the movie, we've dozed off into dreamland. By the 5th hour, the coach had arrived at the stop infront of Coral Hotel.

Ms A soon arrived after her salsa class with her fren and fetched us for some supper!

The place is very well known for late night crawlers.

Ribena Freeze with Longans

Double Chicken Chop with Cheese and Keropok

Passionfruit Freeze

What gave the name Triple X?!

3 layers of bread+Sausages+Meat patty+Cheese+egg omelette!

Meat patty and chesse wrapped in prata and drizzled with mayo!

And it's only RM5!

Fried Rice with Soft Shell Crab and Keropok at RM 15!

The chunky soft shell crabs *slurp*

We're about to leave the place, when we spotted Luk Luk. We stopped immmediately for some helpings before heading back to Ms A's apartment.

There are more selections here as compared to the others we had eaten.

Apparently, this FAT ONE is pretty famous around the area.

Upon reaching Ms A's apartment, another 2 of her c0lleagues have arrived from S'pore.

The Bedroom

The bed was so cosy with feather-filled pillows.

And Ms A, OB and I shared the bed during the stay there.

The Living Room

The Kitchen

Spotted this MAc flyer on the desk. Would you wana have a go at Mega Mac??!!

It's getting xtremely late, and the sun will be rising in a few hours time.

I'm all ready and tucked myself comfortably in bed, at least in the middle. =)

2nd day - It was a fantastic and warm day to start with.

We know it was too early to stomach a cold dessert in the morning. But it was really hot out in the sun and so happened to have a really cool gelato tempting at us.

And a combo of 3 flavours only cost us RM$12! Berry nice!

As we walked out with our gelato, we realised it was a new shopping center - Pavilion. No wonder I was wondering why hadn't I seen it before.

Weng Hing is a coffee shop that serves delectable breakfasts and lunch for all we know. Fried Kway Teow with cockles, Yong Tau Foo with Chee Chong Fun, Minced Meat Mee and etc are the many dishes that served here. It's located just opposite of Dorsett Hotel or also the Ritz Carlton, and before Jalan Imbi.

The Ice Coffee was thick and fragrant! The sweetness was just right, if not maybe alittle sweet for the non-sweet tooth.

We ordered the fried kway teow to share. Something told OB that it didn't taste as good as before. I just feel that it was normal but tasty enough.

But the only thing that draws us to this coffee shop is the freshly baked mini egg tarts. We waited a long time, since I ordered 30 to bring home! I love the flaky pastry skin that the baker does to the egg tarts. And it's the mini-ness taht allow you to pop one-by-one into your mouth straight away!

Besides egg trats, you can also find other interesting snacks such as baked paus with tuna or meat fillings, Tau Sau Piah and etc.

OB tried their Tuna Pau; very tasty and filled to the crispy baked skin.

We went off to the nearby shopping centers for some shopping and walking while waiting for Ms A to join us for lunch. We're bringing her to Ampang for the authentic Yong Tau Foo, that even she hasn't been there.

We're finally at Ampang's Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo after having waited Ms A for hours and flagging down a cab with chinese driver who knew the way.

We were told that this is the 2nd best Yong Tau Foo restaurant, but no idea where's the no. 1.

It's still crowded by lunch time.

We waited for this for so long! And didn't hesitate to order the 1st dish - Fried Prawn Dumpling.

It's crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. And the prawn filling is so well-marinated that you'll definitely won't stop at 1 plate!

Brinjal sanwiched Fish cake; My first try with brinjal started here and it never stops.

After lunch, we hopped on a cab to Times Square. We've heard that it has changed alot since we last visited. Indeed, there's even a amusement park built within the shopping center! More retail outlets are also included, and the place has sprang with more crowds than before what used to be a dead town.

The roller coaster looked tempting to try by OB.

Foot Master; where the dead skin on your legs are chewed off by small fishes that are kept in a big tank.

For some tea-break snacks, Ms A bought these donuts under her friend's recommendation. But I wonder what's the hoo-haa about? They tasted ordinary like soft bread to me. No where near as compare to my favourite Krispy Kreme.

It's a must to have a big cup o Baskin Robbins whenever we visit KL! I find that it's cheaper, more delish and generous than B&J's in S'pore.

The largest ice-cream cup ordered; Choc, Raspberry &

Auntie Annie's

The original pretzel that OB had was burnt and hard.

We took the 'LRT' to travel out of centrak KL to another station where Ms A's salsa friend would bring us to a famous Zhi Char for dinner. What's famous there is the acclaimed bbq pork trotter.

The building opposite is actually a prison.

Pork Trotter; Lotsa fats besides the crispy skin.

The la-la in Shao Xing wine broth. And I think this is the best dish this dinner had served.

Sambal kang kong.

Chicken wings. Even though Ms A had greatly recommended this dish, I couldn't find any reason to agree with her. Probably we were too full prior to this dinner.

The Seafood in Curry sauce was fantastic as well. A very unique style of cooking.

The view from Ms A's apartment was mersmirizing!

We got to catch the lighted clock on the building of the right here.

Since it's still early, we decided to catch one of the dvd movies that Ms A's kept. But it won't be right if there's no beer to keep me and OB company.

Imagined we walked nearly 2 hours and reached the Night Life of KL to find our beers?! In the end, we caught a cab back to Ms A's apartment with 2 cans.

Our snacks to go along with our precious beers for dvd movie.

It was our last lunch before we left for S'pore. We wanted to have our usual Bak Kut Teh at Jalan Imbi. But Ms A's salsa fren decided to bring us to this other restaurant that he claimed serves a more traditional and better version.

It's hard to find this place unless you know someone who does and drives. It's pretty out of central KL and near the industrial areas. I doubt even cab drivers know of this place, except for a food hunter like Ms A's salsa fren.

Appetiser; Fried dough (You Tiao) and dried beancurd soaked in soup.

I'm not a fan of yam rice, so I won't comment much.

The tau pok that's simmered in a soup of its own. Soft and tangy.

The 3-layer pork slices in clear soup.

And the stew lean pork slices in black sweet sauce. I prefer this and the the meat is still tender and chewy.

Simple boiled lettuce with oyster sauce.

A snail on my rice? I didn't do this on purpose, it just happened!

Guess what's OB straining her eyes at?

There are a total of 10 'skins' in one intestine! It's alot of hard work to get those intestine skins one-by-one.

What happen when you're done and left with few left-over food?

Drying out intestines on chopsticks.

Or BBQ intestines?

Hopefully, some walk can help us digest the sinful lunch alittle.

And include some exercises as well.

I'm a young monkey in a Old Monkey restaurant.

I stopped by our favourite bah kwa store for crispy chillied slices before hopping our coach back home.

This place has changed so much ever since our last trip to KL! It's more pleasant to have your meals there now. Good Job!

That's our smart-looking coach - Aeroline.

It was the 1st time that we travelled back to S'pore in the day. The scenery may not be as breath-taking as the Grand Canyon or Mt Fuji, but it's good enough to send us back with.

Finally, we're back home!

The 20 egg tarts for PIG and the other piggies at office.

And the BBQ chili slices!
